Wings For Earth

WFE  is an environmental NGO apolitical and non-denominational working for harmony between people and their environment :

The history of the association

The axes of development

The structure and committees

The international network

Axes developments

The main tasks which is aimed WFE are cultural, environmental, educational and health. These missions are very closely entangled and the common denominators which unite them deserve to be developed in order to understand the main lines cross on which WFE wants to focus its action.

I - Culture and Environment.

It may seem incongruous to display as one of the main targets, the analysis of cultural and environmental populations which will be the subject of draft WFE, given the level of socio-economic and health conditions of great concern for these populations. In fact, this component is crucial in determining the key to success in other missions. Recall that indeed Africa is a land of tradition on which we can trace European solutions "made" under penalty to face a non-adherence and thus a final failure.

In parts of the climatic conditions which are alternating periods of drought and devastating flooding, deforestation, disruption of wildlife and the relatively anarchic proliferation of settlements is not a simple economic risk vis-à-vis " attraction exercised by the wildlife on tourism, but also heavily involved in the emergence and spread of epidemics.
So are inextricably linked problems as different in appearance as water management, respect for wildlife, conflicts between animals migrants and new settlers are residing at the human migration routes of animals, the lack of plan land-use "green" and the problems of overpopulation, famine and epidemics of infectious.
This approach could be summarized by the following principles:

1 / Culture and protection of the environment are inextricably linked and mutually reinforcing actions health and education among populations for whom respect for tradition is deeply rooted,

2 / This approach cultural and environmental needs to be supported and coordinated by the local legal authorities, in order to expect any support of the people of all aid measures proposed

3 / Therefore incorporate (not dismiss) the same moral authorities in the thoughts of environmental and educational aid missions to the people, focusing on geographic areas where the authorities most progressives are located. These sectors "privileged" will be as much a distribution point in a certain exemplary on sectors neighbours,

4 / The guidelines settlement forced march and without environmental considerations can be dangerous and deleterious.
If they have the support of national political powers which they reinforce the authority, however, severely disrupting 1 / ecosystems and human health card by promoting overcrowding and 2 / balances premises, particularly in weakening the guardians of ancestral traditions, but also order, relay essential for a culture change, effective,

5 / Respect the traditions does not mean not to have them move on the issues on which they are most objectionable (notably in the ritual practices of excision and infibulation), which again changes must be accompanied by the heads local

6 / A micro-local approach, a fine knowledge of the terrain, the incorporation into thinking the same local chiefs are essential and such specifications can only be conducted by NGOs size adapted to the local first. These NGOs are perfectly complementary to the major projects of national or international assistance "macroscopic" but very heterogeneous application on the ground.

II - Mission Health.

Many NGOs of international dimensions are already operating in Africa, particularly in Kenya.
Without minimizing the generally positive assessment of these NGOs on the major issues of Public Health, it should however be noted that some communities remain inaccessible (including Northern Kenya) in such assistance, as constructed clinics remain empty medical attendance, and it is not always an interface between the very local logistical and financial power of these NGOs and some local populations.

Again, the WFE ambitions in this respect are voluntarily at a very local scale and are just a field work carried out by micro-antennas, not necessarily medical, which could provide further functions of provision of care first "lightweight" , prevention, and health monitoring. Note that such a concept requires very little infrastructure (buildings exist or can be provided for this purpose), but suppose to be a nurse referent.
This approach, which is closely dependent on other parts of the action plan WFE includes several actions that involve local communities.

These include but are not limited to the following actions:
o            Ensure accessibility and maintenance of gateways to existing water, directly involving villagers,
o            Establish mapping needs additional water points and look at the level of each village locating new drilling in places consensual,
o            Developing hygiene and prevention based on the formidable that the school represents Bush, attended by the different generations;
o            Establish a "health card" of local people and especially children, again through schooling,
o            Up on the national, warnings pre-endemic and pre-famine, especially in triggering the intervention of national funding for the repurchase and the slaughter of animals sick or dying,
o            Provide a function switch on medical clinics in the event of serious illness,
o            Supporting large NGOs in the provision of local medicines in the event of an endemic or epidemic.
o           Resume rotations of medical consultations in the most inaccessible and neglected both by NGOs and by governmental and strengthen the capacity of clinics paramedics. If necessary, this type of action can also be seen in the form of cooperation between medical and academic institutions Monegasque and local clinics.

In summary, the actions proposed by driving WFE can be summed up on a few key points:

1 / help finance wells while involving the local community and its leadership in the strategy for implementing water points, and their access,

2 / rely on education and school bush to promote educational measures hygienic single,

3 / always through the bush school, both for children and adults, creating a form of medical health,

4 / sanitary establish points of land, mainly nurses, to monitor these populations, provide first aid and direct the heavy conditions.

III - Educational Mission.

The mission consists of three separate strands.

-       A purely academic, organizing campaigns sponsorship to finance a private school for a limited number of children, unfortunately,

-       A school and local education, open to children not covered by sponsorship, but also for adults, in an integrated school concept bush.

-      An awareness to environmental problems faced by communities by establishing workshops weekly recovery Heritage and practical work, a prerequisite to community meetings organized with a view to finding solutions in the short, medium and long term.

Very quickly, NGAISSI on the project, the success of this operation has led to 150 school children in less than two years, and it is now necessary to hire a second teacher. It has quickly attracted adults, primarily women and now a growing male population. The centre then largely beyond its initial academic aspirations, it becomes a powerful tool for appropriation of space education by local communities.

It is then possible to be addressed by the villagers themselves traditional behavioral changes incompatible with the respect of hygiene, management of common land, water and educate them about the environmental conflict including animals / humans.

The educational mission of WFE could be summarized on the following ideas:

1 / parallel conduct a mission thrust private school, on a still limited number of children and students, and a mission of primary school-type service. If the selection of candidates is inherently unequal, these choices are made at least working together at the community level.

2 / extend the concept of the school bush to that of a global education and environmental health.

3 / spread the concept of bush school for adults.

4 / use of this meeting space for cultural and educational involve communities and their leaders in collective actions as diverse as strategies for water management, respect for wildlife nearby, the establishment of a form of medical monitoring at least for children, and as a second step for adults.

IV - Training for the empowerment and skills transfer project management.

The projects conform to the traditions, cultures and local habits is a primary concern of WFE.
Development aid is spent on those areas, a collaboration with the local population.
The development of durable solutions proposed by WFE has the ultimate aim to convey in person to communities Kenyan reactive, self-determined, but victims of marginalization, of isolation and acculturation, programs viable and locally manageable in the long term.
